Is FutureMe Free in 2026? Pricing, Premium & Alternatives
"A free website, a free app download and free unlimited writing are three different promises."
Last checked: 15 October 2026.
Short answer
Yes: text letters on futureme.org can still be written and scheduled free. The free website is ad-supported. FutureMe also has Premium membership, a free-to-download iOS app with in-app purchases, and a separate paid service for organisations. Those are different offerings, not one price that applies to everyone.
If you searched “is FutureMe not free anymore?” or “does Future Me cost money now?”, the useful question is what you want to do, and where. Sending a basic text letter through the website is not the same purchase as upgrading the app. You do not need to abandon the idea of a future-self letter just because you encounter a Premium prompt.
Disclosure: Future Note is our own app. We discuss it below as one alternative, not as an independent winner. This is a source-based pricing check, not a hands-on test of every FutureMe membership or a guarantee about future pricing.
What's free vs Premium
| Offering | What the source says | Price or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| FutureMe website | Write and schedule basic text letters | Free; ad-supported |
| FutureMe Premium | Optional paid membership described in the Terms | One-time Premium Fee; fee and membership period shown at purchase |
| FutureMe iOS app | Free download with in-app purchases; listing mentions photos/videos and editing for up to 2 days after sending | Listing says “Send unlimited letters with a Premium upgrade” |
| FutureMe Pro | Organisation service, separate from personal letter writing | $99 USD per year |

Website Premium: what the Terms actually say
The Terms describe a one-time Premium Fee and a Premium Membership Period. Section 4.3 says the applicable fee and period are displayed on the website at purchase and may change. The fee is non-refundable except as required by law. If a third-party biller handles payment, its additional billing terms may apply.
A pricing detail worth correcting: the supplied reference described a minimum of $3 USD, with the amount determining the membership period. The current page reached through the cited Terms URL no longer states that minimum or that formula. We therefore cannot call $3 the current entry price. Use the amount and period displayed at checkout rather than an older summary, including ours.
“One-time” describes the fee in those Terms; it does not automatically mean lifetime access. A payment can be one-time and still cover a limited membership period. Read the period beside the amount before deciding whether the upgrade suits you.
The iOS listing: examples, not a guaranteed checkout price
The US App Store listing labels FutureMe “Free · In-App Purchases.” Its purchase list includes 1 Year Premium Membership from $2.99, 5 Year Premium Membership $24.99, 10 Year Premium Membership $49.99, and Lifetime Premium Membership $99.99.
There are multiple one-year entries and other purchase items in that list. These examples do not prove that every account can buy every item, or that the lowest listed one-year amount will appear in your checkout. Prices vary by store and region and may change. Check the offer actually presented to you, its currency, and its billing terms.
The listing also mentions photos and videos, editing letters for up to two days after sending, and “Send unlimited letters with a Premium upgrade.” That last line is why we do not describe the app as offering unlimited free letters. Nor do we invent an exact free-app letter cap: the cited description does not establish one.
FutureMe Pro is a different purchase
FutureMe Pro lists $99 USD per year for organisations. It is aimed at group use rather than a person writing a single private letter. Finding that price while researching FutureMe does not mean ordinary text-letter sending has become a $99 subscription. Start with the personal website unless you actually need an organisation service.
Why people think it went paid
The name FutureMe covers several experiences. A free website, an app purchase list, a Premium membership page and Pro pricing can appear in the same search. Without those distinctions, “free download” can look like “all features free,” while an upgrade screen can look like “nothing is free anymore.” Neither conclusion follows automatically.
The app's unlimited-letter wording is another source of confusion. Someone who wants repeated app-based writing may encounter a paid upgrade even though the website still supports free text letters. That difference is worth checking before switching services; it is not proof that the basic website option has vanished.
An old article can also mix membership names or amounts from different periods. The safest comparison names the product surface, cites its source and gives a check date. This guide does not establish when any pricing change happened, and it does not use app reviews as evidence of billing policy.
FutureMe alternatives: choose the container first
Email-based: FutureMe itself
If your goal is a text letter arriving in your inbox, the free FutureMe website may already meet it. Write in a browser, choose the delivery date and use an address you expect to keep. Consider where the email will arrive and whether you will recognise it. No service comparison can guarantee that you will still use the same inbox years later.
Paper: a letter with an opening date
Write by hand, seal an envelope and put the opening date outside. Paper preserves your handwriting and avoids an app membership, but it depends on keeping the envelope somewhere you can find. It also cannot prevent you from opening it early. For an important letter, think about damage or loss rather than treating paper as automatically permanent.
Sealed in-app: Future Note
Future Note is iPhone only. Writing and sealing notes are free and unlimited. You choose the unlock date; a sealed note cannot be opened or edited before that date. You can include mood, photos and voice-to-text dictation.
When a note returns, replying to the version of you who wrote it is Premium through an in-app purchase, with the conversation kept on a private timeline. We are not quoting a Premium price. The trade-off is deliberate: if you want to revise the letter before its date or use a browser instead of an iPhone, this is not the same experience as scheduled email.

Which should you choose?
Choose the free FutureMe website if your priority is a basic text letter delivered by email. Consider FutureMe Premium or its app only after checking the exact offer, membership period and features you need. Choose paper if the physical letter matters more than enforced waiting. Consider Future Note if you use an iPhone and want free, unlimited sealing with a chosen unlock date; budget for Premium only if you want the returned-note reply loop.
Before choosing, ask: do I want email delivery or an in-app return? Do I want to edit later or preserve these words unchanged? What will I want to do when the letter comes back? Those answers are more useful than judging everything by the word “free.”
If the blank page is the real obstacle, start with our letter to your future self examples and guide. You can decide where to keep it after you have something worth sending.
FAQ
Is FutureMe free in 2026?
Yes. You can still write and schedule text letters free on futureme.org; the free website is ad-supported. FutureMe also offers paid Premium membership, an iOS app with in-app purchases, and a separate Pro service for organisations.
Is FutureMe not free anymore?
The basic text-letter website remains free. Seeing an app Premium prompt or a paid membership option does not mean the website's free letter-writing option has disappeared. The website and iOS app describe their free and Premium offerings differently.
Does FutureMe cost money now?
It depends on which offering you use. Basic website text letters are free. Current Terms describe a one-time Premium Fee, non-refundable except as required by law, with the fee and membership period shown at purchase; they do not state a $3 minimum. The US iOS listing shows in-app purchases, while FutureMe Pro for organisations is listed at $99 USD per year. Store prices vary by region and may change.
What are the alternatives to FutureMe?
You can keep a dated paper letter or use a sealed-note app such as Future Note. Future Note is iPhone only; writing and sealing are free and unlimited, and you choose the unlock date. Sealed notes cannot be opened or edited before that date. Replying to returned notes is Premium through an in-app purchase.
