About FutureNote
A quiet place to write to who you'll become — and hear back from who you were.
FutureNote is an iOS app for writing sealed letters to your future self. You write a note, add a mood, optionally a photo — then choose the date it unlocks. You can also dictate with voice-to-text when typing feels too slow for what you need to say.
Once sealed, a note can't be opened or edited before its date — not even by you. When it returns, you can reply to your past self, and the exchange builds a private timeline: a conversation across time, between two versions of you. There is no limit on how many notes you write and seal.
In the spring of 2024 I wrote a letter to who I'd be in a year and emailed it to myself with a calendar reminder. When it came back, I didn't recognise the person who wrote it. Not in a bad way — in a "oh, you were carrying that?" way.
I tried again in three different journaling apps. Every one let me edit the past. The ritual disappeared the moment the friction did.
So I spent the next eighteen months building the thing I wanted: a place where a note, once sealed, is genuinely gone until its day. No peek. No edit. No draft. Just you, then. Talking to you, now.
